Aptive was started in December 2015 by David Royce just a month after he sold his previous pest control firm, Alterra. It currently operates offices in 34 states. Aptive employs its own sales force and also has signed agreements with marketing firms to sell for it. In August 2024, private equity firm Citation Capital acquired a majority stake in the company. In 2025, Aptive did an estimated $590 million in revenue.
