D2D Reviews ("we," "us") runs a review and discussion platform for door-to-door companies. This page explains what information we handle when you use the site, why we have it, and the choices you have. It covers d2dreviews.com and applies to everyone who visits, signs in, or posts. We operate in the United States and the service is intended for people in the United States.
What we collect
There are three buckets, and they're easy to keep straight:
- What you give us when you sign in. The only way to create an account is Google sign-in, so the basics of your account come from your Google profile. Details are in Signing in with Google below. We never see or store your Google password.
- What you pick when you set up your account. A handle and your industry. Your handle is your public name in the forum — it appears on every thread and reply you post, and it is permanent, so choose one you don't mind standing behind. Your industry is used to understand who the site serves; it isn't shown publicly.
- What you write. Reviews, star ratings, forum threads and replies, and any report you file on someone else's content. This is the point of the site, so naturally we keep it.
- What happens automatically. Our hosting provider keeps short-lived server logs, including IP addresses, that we use to keep the site up and to throttle abuse. When you click a company's contact link, we log that the click happened — which company, when, and your account if you're signed in — before sending you on to the company's page.
Signing in with Google
Google sign-in is the only way to create an account here. We use it purely for authentication — to confirm you are who you say you are, to give you one account instead of letting people spin up throwaways, and to attach your reviews and forum posts to that account. We do not use it to read anything else in your Google account.
We ask Google for the standard basic sign-in permissions and nothing more. That gives us three things:
- A Google account ID — the unique identifier Google gives us for your account. We store it so we can recognize you when you come back.
- Your email address (and whether Google has confirmed it) — we store it to identify your account, to contact you about your account or a report on your content, and to help us catch duplicate accounts and ban evasion. It is never shown publicly on the site.
- Your name — we store it so you have the option to post a review under your real name instead of anonymously. If you never choose that, it is never displayed.
That is the complete list. We do not request access to Gmail, Drive, Contacts, Calendar, or any other Google service, and we cannot see them.
How we handle what Google gives us. D2D Reviews' use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In plain terms: we use this data only to provide and secure the features described above. We do not sell it, we do not use it for advertising, we do not use it to build profiles for anyone else, and we do not let humans read it except where you've asked us to, where it's needed for security or moderation, or where the law requires it. It is stored in our authentication and database systems, protected in transit and at rest, and shared only with the service providers listed under Who we share it with.
Taking it back. You can revoke our access at any time from your Google account permissions page, which stops any future sign-ins. To also remove the profile we've already stored, request account deletion from your account settings or email us. We work these by hand, so it isn't instant — but once it's done, your name, email, and Google account ID are deleted, and your reviews stay up anonymized as described below.
What we don't collect
It's worth being just as clear about the things we deliberately stay away from. We don't sell or rent your personal information to anyone. We don't accept file or image uploads from members, so there's no upload metadata to worry about. We don't currently show ads; if that ever changes we'll update this policy, and we still won't sell your personal information.
How reviews appear publicly
You choose how each review appears: anonymously, or under the name on your account. Either way, your email is never shown publicly. We keep the internal link between you and your review so we can enforce our limits and act on reports — but that link is not exposed on the site, and we never sell it or change a review in exchange for payment.
The forum works differently. Posts and replies there always appear under your handle, not anonymously and not under your real name. Because the handle stays the same across everything you post, people can follow your history in the forum — worth keeping in mind when you write about a specific employer.
If you delete your account, we keep the reviews you've written and remove your identity from them. They show as "Former Member" from then on. We do this on purpose: a review is a record other people relied on when making a decision, and quietly erasing it would undercut the point of the platform. Why we use what we collect
To operate your account and show your contributions; to stop spam and abuse, which includes enforcing the limit of two reviews per person; and to review reports and moderate content. We are not going to email you marketing you didn't ask for.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run the site — sign-in, database and authentication, and hosting and network — and they only handle data on our behalf, under contract, for those purposes. We don't sell your data to any of them or to anyone else. We will disclose information if the law genuinely requires it — a valid subpoena or court order — and we'll push back on requests that overreach.
How long we keep things
Account and profile data stays while your account is open. Server logs are short-lived. Reviews and other public contributions are kept even after you leave, in anonymized form, as described above. If you want your account closed, request it from your account settings or email us, and we'll take care of it.
Your choices
You can edit or delete your own reviews at any time, and you can request that your account be closed. If you'd like to know what we hold about you, want something corrected, or want your account removed, email [email protected] and we'll take care of it. If you're a California resident: we don't sell personal information, and we honor access and deletion requests at the same address.
Security
Access to user data is restricted to the people and systems that need it, and traffic to the site is encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, and we won't pretend otherwise — but the link between you and your reviews is kept tightly controlled, which limits the damage any single mistake could do.
Age
This site is for adults researching workplaces. It isn't directed at children, and you need to be at least 18 to create an account.
Changes
We'll update this page when our practices change and move the "last updated" date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll do more than quietly edit the date — we'll flag it.
